Jaffa Cakes

Jaffa Cakes or even Jaffa is a pastry originating from the UK and Ireland and in 1927 by UK biscuit manufacturer McVitie & Price Ltd.. was introduced. McVitie's is a brand of UK biscuit manufacturer United Biscuits today. Their invention is widely John Langlands attributed to the then director of McVitie & Price. The pastry was named after a native of Jaffa Jaffa oranges.

Jaffa Cakes are circular and have a diameter of 54 millimeters. They consist of three layers: a sponge cake base, a layer of flavored Orangengelées and a dark chocolate coating.

The lack of clarity as to whether Jaffa Cakes are classified as cakes and biscuits or as accordingly subject to a different calculation of the VAT, the court went in favor of the manufacturer McVitie's; it must not have a VAT (Value Added Tax, VAT ) to be paid in the UK - classified as a cookie, it would be 20 percent.
