Jagdstaffel 28

The fighter squadron 28 was a Württemberg unit of the Air Force in the First World War.

History

The fighter squadron 28 situated in Böblingen on 14 December 1916. Oberleutnant Rudolf Lang took over on 20 January 1917 the squadron. On January 24, the squadron was transferred to the near Kortrijk. The first aerial victory of the season scored by Max Müller on April 7, 1917. Nine pilots achieved while belonging to Jasta 28 five or more aerial victories. Overall, pilots of the squadron achieved 100 aerial victories. The first loss suffered by the squadron on 1 May 1917. Among the own losses were among nine pilots, three others were injured, one suffered injuries in an accident and a pilot was taken prisoner. After the transfer of Lieutenant Lang fell within five months, three squadron leader. Among them was Captain Otto Hartmann, who led the squadron of 8 June 1917 until his death on September 3, 1917.

Last squadron commander was Lieutenant Emil Thuy, who led the squadron on 28 September 1917 to 11 November 1918.

Aircraft

The fighter squadron 28 was mainly equipped with Albatros D.III and Albatros DV. Later Fokker D.VII were added.
