Jaggies

As stairs ( steps) effect (also pixilated or raster conversion effect), this is called in computer graphics " stair-like " appearance to the edges of rasterized figures.

The staircase effect is not a consequence of the scanning algorithm itself, but is caused by the finite resolution of the graphics device. Particularly irritating it is for animations, since small objects here seem strikingly bobbing. Although the aliasing in the literature often described as a consequence of the aliasing, it is not to aliasing in the conventional sense of the signal analysis, wherein a high frequency appears as a lower frequency interference. The staircase effect can be called by higher resolution and with anti-aliasing, anti-aliasing can be reduced. For some screens, the staircase effect can be additionally reduced by subpixel rendering.

Without a staircase effect can be figures, only with the help of vector screens or plotters represent.
