Jak Sayabalyan

Jacques Sayabalian ( Paylag ) (Armenian Ժագ Սայապալեան ( Փայլակ ), Turkish Jak Sayabalyan; born June 1888 in Konya, † 1915 in Ankara) was an Armenian journalist, translator and auxiliary Consul of the English representation in Konya. He was a victim of the Armenian genocide.

Life

The father of Jacques Sayabalians, Gazaros Sayabalyan, was governor of the province of Konya. 1896 Sayabalian went to Istanbul, where he attended the Retheos Berberian School, and continued his education at the American College of Izmir for two more years. Sayabalian was a member of the Armenian National Assembly in the Ottoman Empire.

In 1909 Jacques Sayabalian became a journalist in Istanbul. He headed the journal Şehbal and wrote commentaries for the newspaper Surhantag. After that, he wrote in the newly released Armenian newspapers, magazines and yearbooks in Istanbul. In the newspaper he wrote Masis V. poems under the pen name. During the genocide of the Armenians Sayabalyan was arrested on 24 April 1915, deported to Ankara and killed near Ankara. His grave is unknown.
