Jakaya Kikwete

Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete ( born October 7, 1950 in Msoga, Tanganyika ) since December 2005, President of Tanzania.

Life

He attended 1958-1961 elementary school in his hometown, from 1962 to 1965, the Intermediate school in Lusonga, from which he moved to the Kibaha Secondary School, where in 1969 he made the middle maturity. He spent a year as students of secondary Tanga Secondary School, 1972 he enrolled at the University of Dar es Salaam. Six years later, he finished his studies thereat with a degree in economics. In 1983, he completed one year of training as a company commander in the army.

Presidency

His political career began as a deputy of his native district and Bagamoyo - after its division - the district Chalinze resulting from it. He was the only deputy who represented his district for three legislative sessions in Parliament. In the early 1990s he worked as a financial and energy minister, since the beginning of the term of government Mkapa, 1995 in the Office of the Secretary of State. As a presidential candidate of the ruling Chama Cha former Unity Party Mapinduzi (CCM ) Kikwete was elected on 14 December 2005 with approximately 80 % of the vote to the President of Tanzania and sworn in on December 21. In 2008 he was president of the African Union. In the presidential elections of October 31, 2010 Kikwete was elected with 61% for a further term. His strongest challenger Wilbrod Slaa ( Chadema ) got 26 percent of the vote.

Kikwete was confronted during his entire political career to date with corruption allegations.
