Jake Hess

Jake Hess ( born December 24, 1927 at Limestone County, Alabama; † January 4, 2004 in Opelika, Alabama ) was an American singer of Southern Gospel. He was born Manchild Hess, however, was registered under the name of William Jesse Hess as a conscript. Jake Hess was his stage name.

His artistic career began as a 16- year-old in John Daniel Quartet, later he was a member of other singing groups, from 1947 to 1963 in the Statesman Quartet. He then founded the Imperials Quartet ( to this day as The Imperials made ​​), the 1966 Elvis Presley accompanied on the gospel album How Great Thou Art. In 1978 it came to the reunification of the Statesman Quartet. Together with the artists James Blackwood and JD Sumner, they formed the group The Master's V, which sometimes occurred from 1981 to 1988 together on tour. Along with his children, Becky and Chris Jack Hess formed the group The Jake Hess Sound, some of which occurred in the 1970s during TV broadcasts of religious services of the evangelical preacher Gene Scott.
