Jake LaMotta

Jake LaMotta, also known as The Bronx Bull and The Raging Bull (* July 10, 1922 in New York; actually Giacobe LaMotta ) is a retired Italian- American boxer. He was from 1949-1951 world champion at middleweight.

LaMotta was a typical pressure fighter with legendary chin. The Ring Magazine voted him the best boxer with rugged qualities of the story. 1990 was LaMotta induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Boxing career

LaMotta lost on the instructions of the Mafia fight in November 1947 against Billy Fox, to which the Mafia had bet, which enabled him by the mafia relations the later world championship fight. The title he won in a battle against the heavily favored French Marcel Cerdan on June 16, 1949 in Detroit by knockout in the tenth round. Cerdan had his shoulder dislocated and had to retire early. Before it could come to a rematch, Cerdan died in the plane crash on the Monte Redondo.

After LaMotta in a title defense against Frenchman Laurent Dauthille had great difficulty, he still succeeded in the very last lap a knockout. On 14 February 1951, he eventually lost the title in Chicago by way of knockout in the thirteenth round of Sugar Ray Robinson.

Overall, he played six fights against his arch rival Robinson, but could only once, winning on February 5, 1943 in Detroit. It was also Robinson's first defeat ever. Robinson was at this time but still a welterweight, middleweight LaMotta, however.

Private

Since 2014 LaMotta is married in seventh marriage to Denise Baker. From his second marriage with Vikki originate daughter of Christ and the sons Jake and Joe Jr. who both died in 1998. From his fourth marriage with Dimitria originates daughter Stephanie. He has two other daughters.

Filming of Memoirs

His life was in 1980 with Robert De Niro as LaMotta entitled Raging Bull: filmed (English Raging Bull ). His autobiography Raging Bull: My Story (see sources) served as a template for this purpose. LaMotta distinguished himself in this case proved its value as a personal adviser De Niro's, which ended with De Niro won an Oscar for his convincing portrayal.
