Jake Shears

Jake Shears ( born October 3, 1978 in Arizona as Jason Sellards ) is the lead singer of the Scissor Sisters.

Biography

Jake Shears was born in Arizona, but grew up in the suburbs of Seattle, Washington, where he attended high school. He was then formed on the free art school " Occidental College " in Los Angeles before traveling at age 19 to Lexington, Kentucky to a school acquaintance there and his later band mate Scott Hoffman (Baby Daddy ) met. A year later, both moved to New York.

In New York he studied writing at the " Eugene Lang College " and wrote lyrics for music and gay magazines.

Shears and Hoffman formed the Scissor Sisters in 2001 and came as a performance artist on the relevant electro clubs in the city. The initial regional success was mainly due to the homo-/bisexuellen and transgender scene. In 2004, the major international breakthrough came in the UK and Ireland. Their debut album, " Scissor Sisters " was awarded in the United Kingdom 's best-selling CD of the year and numerous BRIT Awards. In Germany the really big success was despite intensive promotion and tour. However, they were also in Germany prizes, including the BAMBI best newcomer.

Music style

Most likely this can be understood as a mixture of pop, glam rock and alternative. Shears processed mainly influences of ABBA, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Roxy Music, The New York Dolls, Queen, Madonna and Dolly Parton. Striking are the sung by him in falsetto song passages.

Others

Shears lives with his friend Chris ( art student at Yale ), together with whom he became engaged in July 2007.
