Jakob Becker
Jakob Becker ( born March 15, 1810 in Dittelsheim at Worms, † 22 December 1872 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German painter, etcher and lithographer.
Life
A first training received at Becker no longer known today painter Franz Nikolaus Jung in Worms. With 17 years Becker began in the bird 's Art Institute in Frankfurt as a lithographer. Here he created his first major work, an accurate representation of the Rhine panorama from Mainz to Cologne. From 1833 to 1841 Becker attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy, his teachers were Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Wilhelm von Schadow. In 1842 he became professor of genre and landscape painting at the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt. Among his students there were later known for his hunting motifs painter Johannes Deiker and belonging to the Kronberger painter colony Heinrich Winter. In Frankfurt, he became a member of the Masonic Lodge " Socrates for steadfastness ."
Artistic development
After his lithographic beginnings in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf Becker devoted his time only in landscape painting and then went to the historic half over and provided some scenes from the Old Testament book of Tobias. Honors
His birthplace Dittelsheim honors its most famous son with a road that is located at the edge direction Gau- home in a new development. His grave is located in the Frankfurt 's main cemetery.
Family
Jakob Becker married in 1838 in Dusseldorf his wife, Wally, nee Müller, King of Winter, the daughter of Johann Georg Müller and sister of the physician Wolfgang Müller of King Winter. His daughter Maria Georgina Arnoldine (1840-1912) married in 1861 the founder of the Hoechst AG, Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Meister, his younger daughter Maximiliane Eduardo Becker ( 1842-1922 ) married in 1860 Eugen Lucius, who is also one of the founders of Hoechst AG.
