Jakob Hassler

Jacob Hassler ( baptized December 18, 1569 in Nuremberg, † between April 23, 1621 and September 29, 1622, possibly in Eger ) was a German composer and a brother of the more famous composer Hans Leo Hassler.

Jacob Hassler was the son of the Nuremberg organist Isaak Hassler. He probably received his education as his brother in Venice. He was first employed by the Fuggers, then in Hechingen at Eitel Friedrich von Hohenzollern and then at the Prague court. Emperor Rudolf II knighted him in 1595 along with his brothers Hans Leo and Kaspar. Later, his path led him to Eger.

He became known primarily through his compositions for organ and harpsichord.
