Jakob Mayr

Jakob Mayr ( born July 24, 1924 in Kirchbichl; † 19 September 2010 in Salzburg) was Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Salzburg.

Life

Jakob Mayr, the third of six children of a mining family, the Borromäum visited in Salzburg and in Schwaz. In 1943 he became a soldier, went back heavily wounded from the Eastern Front from 1946 and studied philosophy and theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology University of Salzburg. Mayr received on 9 July 1950 in Salzburg ordained priest by the Archbishop of Salzburg Andreas Rohracher. He was initially cooperator in Thiersee, Zell am Ziller, Mayrhofen and St. Rupert and Virgil, of the parish of Salzburg Cathedral. In 1957 he was preacher and youth minister. After working as a prefect at the Archbishop's private high school Borromäum in Salzburg he was a pastor in Bad Häring and in Wörgl. In 1970 he was elected to the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter and investitiert on 15 March 1970 as canon. Mayr was Ordinariate Chancellor of the Diocese of Salzburg.

He was born on March 12, 1971 by Pope Paul VI. appointed Titular Bishop of Agbia and auxiliary bishop in Salzburg. Jakob Mayr died on the evening of 19 September 2010 in a nursing home in Salzburg from pneumonia and was buried in the tomb of Bishop Salzburg Cathedral.
