Jakob Nielsen (usability consultant)

Jakob Nielsen ( born October 5, 1957 in Copenhagen, Denmark ) is a writer, speaker and consultant in the field of software and web - usability. He earned a doctoral degree ( Ph.D.) in the design of user interfaces and computer science at Technical University of Denmark. Nielsen worked at Bellcore, IBM, and as " senior researcher " at Sun Microsystems. Back in 1991, said Nielsen predicted that hypertext is the future of design of user interfaces and wrote a comprehensive book on the subject. He updated the book in 1995 and took into account the success of the Web.

Having had produced on his website on the subject of usability great attention in the media its regularly published articles, he founded along with Donald Norman Nielsen Norman Group, a consulting firm for serviceability.

Today Nielsen is often cited as one of the leaders in the field of usability. He is known for his (often severe ) criticism of popular websites known. He complains, for example, when users are hindered by playful details such as animation, Flash and graphics. Nielsen published a continued biweekly newsletter, has published several books on web design and holds 79 U.S. patents.

Nielsen 2006, the 90-9-1 rule ( also: one-percent rule) for the use of online communities set up: Read 90% of users and look at only 9 % of users contribute from time to time, and only 1 % of users actively contribute content; of them are most of the contributions.
