Jakob Wilhelm Roux

Jakob Wilhelm Roux ( born April 13, 1771 in Jena, † August 22 1830 in Heidelberg ) was a German painter and draftsman.

Roux came from an old Huguenot family; his father was the fencing master Heinrich Friedrich Roux and his wife Johanna Magdalena bitter man.

1791 Roux began at the University of Jena to study mathematics; but had already become interested soon only for painting. His first art lessons got Roux at the University of Immanuel Christian Oehme (1759-1832), where he learned the " anatomical drawing ".

Funded by Oehme Roux made ​​the acquaintance of Justus Christian Loder with the developed an interesting collaboration. In the years 1797 to 1803 Roux was instrumental " Tabulae anatomicae " at the Illustrations for Loders involved and so that he could make a name as an artist. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Justin Bertuch appreciated him very much as an artist.

1801 married Roux in Jena Pauline Johanna HEYLIGENSTAEDT; with her he had two daughters and a son. The daughter Emelie married the lawyer Ludwig Loew of stone and Furth.

As a master student of the painter Johann Christian Klengel Roux in time became a very sought-after portraitist. 1806 doctorate in Jena Roux Dr. phil. and 1813 he was entrusted with a teaching position there, which was extended a short time later to a " job for life ". From 1805 to 1808, he taught the painter Louise Seidler in pastel painting.

Died in 1823, his wife, and two years later married Charlotte Roux in Heidelberg Mariana Wippermann. With her he had two sons, inter alia, the later painter Charles Roux.

At the age of 59 years Jakob Wilhelm Roux died on August 22, 1830 in Heidelberg.
