Jakobstad
Jakobstad [ jɑ ː kɔpstɑ ː d], Finnish Pietarsaari [ piɛtɑrsɑ ː ri ], is a city on the Gulf of Bothnia in western Finland.
The city was founded in 1652 by Ebba Brahe and named after her late husband as Jakobstad, Jacob de la Gardie.
Languages
The city has a Swedish-speaking majority of 55 % and a Finnish-speaking minority of 43%. It is therefore officially bilingual with Swedish as their first official language. In an international context, the city itself uses mostly the Swedish name Jakobstad.
