Jakov Nenadović

Jakov Nenadović (Serbian Јаков Ненадовић, * 1765 in Brankovina near Valjevo, † 1836 ) was a Serbian Wojwodenführer in the First Serbian Uprising, 1810-1811 President of the Provisional Government of Serbia and Minister of the Interior from 1811 to 1813. Jakov Nenadović regarded as the first Serbian Minister of the Interior.

Jakov Nenadović was the younger brother of Knezen Aleksa Nenadović. Knezen were chief of villages or communities that served as a mediator between the Ottoman authorities and the Serbian population and at the same time were responsible for their duties. Aleksa Nenadović and other influential Serbs saw the opportunity came for a popular uprising against the Ottoman Empire in which it was Knez Aleksa acted as the leader of the revolt. However, they were betrayed and most of them murdered by the Janissaries, including Knez Aleksa. The uprising of the Serbs still began as the leader of the revolt of Heiduckenanführer Karađorđe was necessarily selected.

Jakov Nenadović joined from the beginning the uprising and was one of the most influential figures in insurgent Serbia. As voivode without Heiduckenhintergrund he came at once in opposition to the Heiduckenwojwoden and was leader of the opposition party to Karađorđe. At his instigation in 1807 of Sovjet praviteljstvujušči serbski, the provisional government formed in rebellious Serbia to curtail the powers of Karađorđe and other Heiduckenwojwoden. 1810, the opposition was able to prevail and Nenadović was elected president of the provisional government. Due to new political circumstances came together Nenandović and Karađorđe, and Nenadović came back in 1811 as president of the provisional government, but it was Minister of Internal Affairs.

When the uprising was crushed in 1813 and the Ottomans retook the rebellious Serbia, Nenadović emigrated together with Karađorđe to Moldova. In 1816 he was in St. Petersburg, to emigrate later to Austria, where he remained until 1831. He returned to his birthplace Brankovina near Valjevo, where he died in 1836.

Jakov Nenadović had a son, the Voivode Jefrem Nenadović. His daughter, Persis became the wife of Alexander Karadjordjević.
