Jakub Bart-Ćišinski

Jakub Bart - Cisinski ( officially Jacob Barth, born August 20, 1856 in Kuckau, † October 16, 1909 in Panschwitz ) was a Catholic priest and one of the most important Sorbian poet of the past.

Beard, son of a small farmer, attended from 1862 to 1878 the convent school in Kuckau, Catholic high school in Bautzen as well as the Lesser Town Gymnasium in Prague. From 1878 to 1881 he studied Catholic theology in Prague. Then he was from 1883 to 1901 worked as a chaplain in Ralbitz, Radibor, Schirgiswalde, at the Catholic Hofkirche Dresden and Chemnitz. After he was appointed parish administrator in Radeberg 1901, ended in 1903, by a premature retirement, with a return to Panschwitz be over 16 years of involuntary stay outside the Sorbian settlement area.

Oriented towards the Czech Parnassism in its significant representatives Jaroslav Vrchlický he was recognized, he led after the establishment of the Sorbian national literature by Handrij Zejler (1804-1872) a first secondary elements of literary style formations. As a Catholic priest, he was constantly in conflict with the ecclesiastical authorities. He did not live also as a result of numerous dislocations parishes outside the Sorbian Lusatia long years to serve as a minister to his own people, the Sorbs.

Cisinski is known ( a pseudonym, which means " silence " ) primarily by its shapely sonnets. He also wrote ballads, dramas and a first Sorbian novel attempt Narodowc a wotrodźenc ( "Patriot and Renegade "). One of his best known works is his arisen at a young age poem Moje Serbske wuznaće ( " My Sorbian confession ").

His poetry is at a high level. Since Beard Ćišinskis poems were hardly ever translated, they are in Germany ( and abroad) just a few interested parties.

Honors

In Ćišinskis home community Panschwitz -Kuckau leading through the village main street and the elementary school is named after him. In addition, in the local lip - Park is a bust of the poet. In neighboring Crostwitz the leading after Kuckau street bears his name.

Since 1956, the Cisinski Prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in the fields of Sorbian culture, literature and language.
