Jaltarang

Jaltarang is an Indian musical instrument that belongs to the idiophones. It consists of water-filled porcelain bowls that are placed in a semi-circle and struck with light sticks. Due to the amount of water and the size of the bowls the sounds can be tuned.

The instrument is played very rarely. It consists of 15 to 22 bowls and is used in the North and South Indian music. A well-known Jaltarang players in the North Indian classical music is Milind Tulankar, a South Indian player is Anayampatti S. Ganesan.

A similar semicircle -positioned percussion instrument is the tabla tarang, which belongs to the membranophones.
