Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee

Jamaica Blue Mountain is the name of an Arabica coffee variety, which grows in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica.

Cultivation area

Blue Mountain coffee is one with a few other coffees to the top category of specialty coffees. The coffee trees are grown between 910 meters and 1700 meters altitude. The growing area is just 6,000 acres. The areas above 1700 meters are densely wooded and preserved as a forest reserve. The fog, cool temperatures and heavy precipitation are in the Blue Mountains, the main factors for a particular climate, making the coffee cherries grow much more slowly.

History

According to the Jamaica coffee came in 1728 by the Governor Nicholas Lawes. By 1800 there were already 700 plantations, because the climate was found to be suitable for coffee cultivation. With the abolition of slavery in the 1830s ( while officially 1807) was farming the plantation difficult and the coffee exports fell in 1850 to 1,500 tons from.

  • Jamaica Blue Mountain No.. 3: 96 % of the beans have a size of 6 to 6.5 mm ( Screen Size 15/16) to no more than 2% of significant deficiencies
  • Jamaica Blue Mountain Peaberry: 96 % of the beans have a size of at least 4 mm ( Screen Size 10 ) no more than 2% of significant deficiencies on
  • Jamaica Blue Mountain Triage: Contains beans classifications No. 1 to no. 3 with not more than 4 % of significant deficiencies
