Jamaican Order of Merit

The Order of Merit is a Jamaican Order. It can be awarded to Jamaican citizens who have done great service in the fields of science, art, culture, or other services. Foreign nationals may be appointed as honorary members. Originally, the Order of Merit introduced on 18 July 1969 with the National Honours and Awards Act of the Jamaican Parliament Order, which was awarded as the third- highest Jamaican Order of foreign heads of state and head of government, to ensure the Order of Excellence has been newly created in 2002.

The Order of Merit is awarded a maximum of two people per year and the number of members should be limited to 15 people, with the foreign honorary members are not counted. The motto of the Order is " He did does truth comes into the light " ( German: "He who does the truth comes to the light " ), the members are entitled to wear the religious symbol, the address for the members is " The Honourable ". They are also empowered to readjust their name the letters OM (so-called post- nominals ).

Order characters

The religious character of the Order of Merit consists of a worn on the neck, held by a maroon silk ribbon, six-armed, twelve -pointed star of white enamel with a lying thereon, similarly shaped silver star. Is in each case a blue Lignum vitae ( Guaiacum officinale), the Jamaican National Flower Between the outer tips. In the middle of the Jamaican national coat of arms in gold is on a silver background, surrounded by the Order motto in golden letters on rotemailliertem reason.
