James Adair (historian)

James Adair (* 1709 in County Antrim, Ireland; † around 1783) was a born in Ireland dealers and intimate knowledge of the Indian tribes of the south-eastern North America. After emigrating to America he lived from 1735 to 1775 especially among the Cherokee and Chickasaw. He was married with several Indian and had with them a number of children.

1775 James Adair returned back to England, where he wrote a record of his life among the Indians. This later became known under the title The History of the American Indians. These records are considered detailed description of Indian life, however, are not without controversy due to their interpretations.
