History

Giacomo Alberione was born the fifth son of a farmer's family. From 1890-1891 he attended the elementary school in Cherasco, even at this time was his decision to become a priest grown. In 1896, he was taught in Catholic Seminary in Bra and was from 1899 to 1900 at the Episcopal High School. During this time he was of books and magazines so much that he neglected his school duties and had to be relegated. He witnessed firsthand how the printed word could influence people. As of October 1900, the seminarian was finally in the seminary of the diocese of Alba. In the New Year's Eve 1901, he received a visionary interpretation, he should proclaim the Gospel with new means of communication, this task mediated in him the urge to engage in the next century for the people. After his ordination on June 29, 1907, the feast of the martyrdom of St. Paul of Tarsus, he worked in the parish of Narzole 1908 and took over the activities of the Spiritual of students in the seminary of Alba. The life and work of St. Paul would later influence his life and his work.

Media and religious communities

The encyclical " Tametsi futura prospicientibus " was on November 1, 1900 by Pope Leo XIII. (1878-1903) published. In it, the Pope explained, " that the clergy must use all available means to make the humanity familiar with the word of God." In modern parlance this was called for Alberione, that the clergy of both the written and the spoken word should increasingly use media. The young priest candidate was excited about this opportunity and was anxious from now on this instruction to follow. From 1913 he directed the publication of the weekly diocesan newspaper " Gazzetta d' Alba.

The first foundation of a religious community in modern Pauline spirit took place on August 20, 1914 with the Society of Saint Paul. In the Paul family resulting therefrom, he founded between 1915 to 1960 a further five religious institutes and Secular Institutes. All institutes of consecrated life believe in the effects of media in spreading the Gospel, as well as Giacomo Alberione. About the Blessed Alberione is discussed in our time as the " patron saint of the Internet." As a participant in the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) he was involved in the development of the conciliar decree " Inter Mirifica " through the means of social communication and the tools of evangelism (14 December 1963).
