James B. Adams

James B. Adams ( born December 21, 1926 in Corsicana, Texas ) is a former American government official. Notoriety he a gain in the fact that he was eight days head of the FBI.

Life

At Baylor University he completed his study of law and then became a deputy in Texas. On 9 July 1951, he joined the FBI as a Special Agent with. In 1959 he was promoted to Special Agent in Charge of Minneapolis, 1972 by Chicago.

Beginning of 1977, said the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Clarence M. Kelley that he would resign in September 1977. President Jimmy Carter nominated Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr. from the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama for the post. However, as Johnson got health problems, it was decided that William H. Webster would be his successor. Adams should act for a transitional period as head of the FBI.

On February 15, 1978, he became the fifth director of the FBI. His office he laid down a week later, on 23 February 1978, Webster was sworn in as agreed.

Adams was then Deputy Director of the FBI on April 6, 1978. On 11 May 1979 he resigned from this post back and went back to Texas, where he worked in various positions of the prosecution until he retired in 1987.
