James B. Morgan

James Bright Morgan ( born March 14, 1833 in Fayetteville, Tennessee, † June 18, 1892 in Horn Lake, Mississippi ) was an American politician. Between 1885 and 1891 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Already in 1840 James Morgan came with his parents in the DeSoto County in Mississippi, where the family settled in the town of Hernando. Morgan enjoyed an academic education, and then studied law. After his made ​​in 1857 admitted to the bar he began in Hernando to work in his new profession. Between 1857 and 1861 Morgan was also a judge at the local probate court.

During the Civil War James Morgan went into the Army of the Confederate States until Colonel. After the war he became a lawyer again and took his old job as a judge in probate court again. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1876 to 1878 Morgan was a member of the Senate of Mississippi. Between 1876 and 1890 he visited all party days of the Democrats in Mississippi as a delegate. From 1878 to 1882 he was chancellor of the third judicial district of his state.

1884 Morgan was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he Republican Elza Jeffords replaced on March 4, 1885. After two elections Morgan was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1891 a total of three legislative periods. After the end of his time in Congress, he again worked as a lawyer. He died on 18 June 1892 near the town of Horn Lake and was buried in Hernando.
