James Barnes (composer)

James Charles Barnes ( born September 9, 1949 in Hobart, Oklahoma, United States) is an American composer.

After studies in composition and music theory at the University of Kansas in 1974, he earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in 1975. He studied conducting with private Zuohuang Chen. Since 1977 he is a lecturer at the University of Kansas for instrumentation and composition.

James Charles Barnes is also the tuba and has performed with famous orchestras in the United States.

His compositions are widely used and are often listed in the United States of America, Europe, Japan, Taiwan and Australia. The Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra has previously recorded three CDs with works by James Barnes.

In March 2013 James Barnes accompanied the Bishop Ireton Symphonic Wind Ensemble on a concert tour to Bavaria, there to conduct the premiere of his overture "A Bavarian Easter Festival" in Zolling.
