James Beard Foundation

The James Beard Foundation is a New York-based organization that is dedicated to promoting the art of cooking prescribed. It was named in memory of James Beard. It is awarded annually to chefs, wine experts, journalists, and cookbook authors. Young cook -offs are promoted with scholarships.

The organization was founded in 1986 by Peter Kump, a student of James Beard and founder of the Institute of Culinary Education. On the recommendation of Julia Child acquired Kump James Beard House in New York's Greenwich Village and made it to the public and to the press. The public should have an opportunity here to know the skills of already established and expectant chefs and learn worthy. This includes regular dinner events where renowned chefs such as Daniel Boulud, Emeril Lagasse, Nobu Matsushisa, Jacques Pépin and Charlie Totter demonstrated their art.

The James Beard Foundation Awards, which are considered the Oscars of the kitchen, are awarded annually to outstanding chefs, journalists and authors. The awarding ceremony of chefs to which, inter alia, held a wine tasting will take place in Milan on the first Monday. The award to authors and journalists will be organized later.

In the headlines, the organization came in 2004 for the abuse of entrusted funds. The board of the organization stepped back then.
