James Caan
Edmund James "Jimmy" Caan ( born March 26, 1940 in Bronx, New York, USA) is an American actor. For his role in The Godfather, he was nominated for an Oscar.
Life and career
James Caan was born the son of a butcher Arthur and his wife Sophie Caan ( born Falkenstein ) in the Bronx, New York City. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Germany. Caan grew up in Sunnyside, Queens on. He studied at Michigan State University and at Hofstra University. His siblings are Ronnie and Barbara, died in 1981 from leukemia. He played football for several years, earned a black belt in Karate and also participated in rodeos.
After winning a drama school he studied with Wynn Handman. After several theater roles Caan received roles in television series such as The Untouchables. He had in the 1964 thriller Lady In A Cage His first serious role in a feature film. In 1966, he starred opposite John Wayne in El Dorado. In the following years he appeared in numerous Hollywood films. His first award won Caan in 1969 for his role as a football player in The Rain People ( The Rain People) by Francis Ford Coppola. For his portrayal of Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, he was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.
From 1982 to 1987 Caan lived in retirement. This was due to the death of his sister, his problems with cocaine and that he felt a total burn out. Only in 1987 he returned to the role of Sergeant Clell Hazard in the film Gardens of Stone his friend Coppola on the canvas back. He then took roles in movies like Alien Nation - Spacecop LA 1991 and Misery. In addition to Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid starred in Flesh And Bone - A bloody legacy and next to Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker in ... but not with my bride - Honeymoon in Vegas. In addition to film roles, such as in Eraser, Poodle Springs ( Philip Marlowe in which he represented ), Mickey Blue Eyes, The yards and Dogville Caan also appeared regularly in television roles.
From 2003 until the fall of 2007 Caan starred in the television series Las Vegas as Ed Deline, managing a casino. Worldwide success, the series was, however, discontinued after the fifth season due to declining ratings and in the wake of the writers' strike with a cliffhanger. Caan had gotten out after the fourth season at his own request from the series and then Tom Selleck was the new main character AJ Cooper introduced.
2004, Caan made a guest appearance in the animated series The Simpsons ( Season 16, Episode 2 - The Secret Ingredient ) and 2010 in the YouTube series The Annoying Orange ( episode: Annoying Orange: Jalapeño ).
In the episode " Fireworks" series Hawaii Five-0, in which his son Scott Caan plays a major role, he has a guest appearance.
Private
James Caan has married twice: the first time in 1976 Sheila Ryan, with whom he had his first son, Scott Caan, who is also an actor. The couple divorced a year later. The second time he married Linda Stokes in 1996, with whom he has two sons.
With Dee Jay Mathis he has a daughter, Ingrid Hayjek a son.
