James Caan

Edmund James "Jimmy" Caan ( born March 26, 1940 in Bronx, New York, USA) is an American actor. For his role in The Godfather, he was nominated for an Oscar.

Life and career

James Caan was born the son of a butcher Arthur and his wife Sophie Caan ( born Falkenstein ) in the Bronx, New York City. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Germany. Caan grew up in Sunnyside, Queens on. He studied at Michigan State University and at Hofstra University. His siblings are Ronnie and Barbara, died in 1981 from leukemia. He played football for several years, earned a black belt in Karate and also participated in rodeos.

After winning a drama school he studied with Wynn Handman. After several theater roles Caan received roles in television series such as The Untouchables. He had in the 1964 thriller Lady In A Cage His first serious role in a feature film. In 1966, he starred opposite John Wayne in El Dorado.
