James Carter (athlete)

James Carter ( born May 7, 1978 in Baltimore) is an American hurdler who specialized discipline are the 400 meters hurdles.

The 400 -meter hurdles runner Carter is coached by former world -class runner Antonio Pettigrew and saw his international breakthrough in 2000 when he qualified as a third of the U.S. Trials for the Olympic Games in Sydney. In Sydney, he then came to the finals, finishing in fourth place. He was again third in the U.S. Trials for the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001. In Edmonton, he did not make it past the semi-finals.

In 2002, he moved then finally on top of the world. He was American champion and was placed in the same year as the third-best runners in the world. After setbacks in 2003, he came again as U.S. champion at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. However, it could be the dream of an Olympic medal again not meet and finished fourth. In 2005 it seemed again to be difficult for him, as new young skaters under the spotlight. Favorite for the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki was the 19 -year-old Kerron Clement and Bershawn Jackson, both of which were at the U.S. Championships before him. However, Clement failed due to his inexperience, and Carter eventually won the silver medal. He ran the final in Helsinki a new personal best of 47.43 seconds.

At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he finished in fourth place.
