James Coleman (Irish artist)

James Coleman ( born 1941 in Ballaghaderreen, Ireland) is an Irish conceptual artist. He works primarily with video and slide installations.

James Coleman studied in Dublin at the National College of Art and Design and University College Dublin. He then spent some time in Paris and London, before they pulled him for about 20 years after Milan. Today he lives and works in Dublin again. In June 2006 he received an honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts from the National University of Ireland, Galway.

He has represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale in 1973. At the documenta 12 in Kassel 2007 James Coleman showed the film Retake with Evidence with actor Harvey Keitel.

2002 Coleman was awarded the Kurt Schwitters Prize of Fine Arts of the Lower Saxony Savings Bank Foundation
