James Cullen (mathematician)

James Cullen ( born April 19, 1867 in Drogheda, † December 7, 1933 ) was an Irish Jesuit priest and mathematician.

He studied mathematics at Trinity College, Dublin. After joining the Society of Jesus in 1892, he studied philosophy and theology. He received on 1 July 1901, the ordination. From 1905, he taught mathematics at the Jesuit boarding school, Mount St. Mary's College in Derbyshire (England). In this year he published a number theoretical essay on numbers of the form. These figures are now referred to by him as Cullen numbers.
