James Edward Tierney Aitchison

James Edward Tierney Aitchison ( born October 28, 1836 in Nimach, India, † September 30, 1898 in Mortlake, Surrey ) was an English physician, botanist, plant collector and traveler. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Aitch. "; but it is also the abbreviation " Aitchis. " in use.

Aitchison 1858 received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Edinburgh. His travels have taken him to Afghanistan and Kashmir. In 1883 he became a member of the Royal Society of London.

Ehrentaxon

The English botanist William Botting Hemsley has the plant genus Aitchisonia from the family of Rubiaceae ( Rubiaceae ) named in his honor.
