James Fisk (politician)

James Fisk ( born October 4, 1763 in Greenwich, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, † November 17, 1844 in Swanton, Vermont) was an American lawyer and politician who represented the state of Vermont in both chambers of Congress.

Life

Fisk was born in Massachusetts and brought his academic knowledge in itself. He fought from 1779 to 1782 in the Revolutionary War and was in 1785 elected to the Massachusetts General Court, the Parliament of Massachusetts. In 1798 he moved to Barre, Vermont, where he worked as a lawyer in the following years. He retired in 1800 for the first time in the House of Representatives from Vermont one, where he remained until 1805. Later he became one of this again from 1809 to 1810 and 1815. As a Democratic Republican, he has since 1804 elected to the House of Representatives of the United States and confirmed in 1806, with the election in 1808 he was defeated, however, his rival candidates. In 1811 he was re-elected again in Congress, he was chairman of the election committee.

From 1815 to 1816 he served as judge of the Vermont Supreme Court In the election to succeed the retiring U.S. Senator Dudley Chase Fisk was able to prevail and once again move into the Congress. He belonged to the United States Senate from November 4, 1817 to January 8, 1818, then he stepped back from the office.
