James Geoghegan

James Geoghegan (* December 8, 1886, † March 26, 1951 ) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician, Attorney General and Judge of the Supreme Court

Biography

After school he studied law and was after graduation worked as a lawyer.

As a candidate of the Fianna Fáil it to deputies ( Teachta Dala ) of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) was elected on 13 June 1930 during an election ( By-election ) and represented there by two subsequent re- elections until December 22, 1936 constituency Longford Westmeath.

On March 9, 1932 he was Minister of Justice as a member of the Executive Council of the Irish Free State and held that post almost eleven months to February 8, 1933.

On November 2, 1936 he was appointed Attorney General. However, this position which he held only less than two from months and resigned after his renunciation of his seat on December 22, 1936 from his position as a judge of the Supreme Court ( Supreme Court ) of Ireland in which he served until his retirement for health reasons in 1949.

His son Hugh Geoghegan was a judge at the High Court, and from 2000 to 2010 at the Supreme Court and thus the first judge whose father was already working there.
