James George Needham

James George Needham ( born March 18, 1868 in Virginia ( Illinois); † July 24, 1957 in Ithaca (New York)) was an American entomologist and Limnologist. He produced over 350 publications.

He studied at Knox College and, after obtaining the master lecturer at the university. At the invitation of John Henry Comstock, who had become aware of his work Elementary Lessons in Zoology at him, Needham was a Goldwin Smith Scholar at Cornell University. A fruit of two years of collaboration in the field of Flügeladerung of insects is the Comstock - Needham system. In 1898 followed nine years as a professor of biology at the Lake Forest University. Then returned to Cornell University and was named after the retirement Comstock, in 1914, Head of the Entomology Department at Cornell University. This office he filled out until his own retirement in 1935. In the following stage of life he wrote over 150 publications.
