James Gosling

James Gosling ( born May 19, 1955 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is one of the forefathers of object-oriented and platform-independent Java programming language. He also invented the windowing system NeWS and Gosling Emacs and the was one of the developers of the microcomputer Star Seven.

Life

He graduated in 1977 from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and received his Ph.D. 1983 by Carnegie Mellon University. The title of his dissertation is Algebraic Constraints.

From 1984 to April 2010, James Gosling was employed by Sun Microsystems and occupied from 2005, the CTO of the product development group.

On April 2, 2010 James Gosling, Sun Microsystems (now acquired by Oracle ) leave. He worked for a few months at Google, so I can work in a small California company as Chief Software Architect.

Awards

2007 Gosling was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada. This represents the second stage of the highest award that can get a civilian in Canada.
