James H. Brady

James Henry Brady ( born June 12, 1862 Indiana County, Pennsylvania, † January 13, 1918 in Washington DC ) was an American politician and 1909-1911 Governor of the State of Idaho. Between 1913 and 1918 he represented his state in the U.S. Senate.

Early years and political rise

James Brady moved in 1865 with his parents in the Johnson County, Kansas. There he attended the public schools and the Leavenworth Normal College. During a subsequent law studies, he supported his family by the way he earned money as a teacher. He was also editor of a newspaper, which appeared twice a week, and he was active in the real estate market. As a real estate broker, he had offices in three states. In 1895, James Brady moved to Idaho, where he dealt with the hydropower and irrigation systems.

Brady was a member of the Republican Party. In the years 1900, 1908 and 1916 he was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions. Between 1904 and 1908 he was chairman of his party in Idaho. He was also president of the Trans-Mississippi Commercial Congress and Vice- President of Congress, which was dealt with at the federal level with the issues of irrigation. In 1908, he was elected governor of his state.

Governor and U.S. Senator

James Brady joined his two -year term as governor on January 4, 1909. During his reign a handicapped school for blind and deaf was established and introduced the principle code in Idaho. In addition, money was made for a children's charity available. On the issue of Prohibition, it was decided in Idaho for a local solution. Thus, the municipalities and districts was left to the decision on liquor laws. After an attempt at re-election in 1910 had failed to Brady devoted first again its extensive shops.

After the death of U.S. Senator Weldon B. Heyburn Brady was elected in a by-election to succeed him. He replaced Kirtland I. Perky, who had carried out the duties as acting. After Brady was elected in 1914 in a private office, he could carry a total of between 24 January 1913 and his death on January 13, 1918 this mandate. Brady was chairman of the Bankaussschusses ( Committee on National Banks) and a member of the Committee on Disposition of Useless Executive Papers in the Senate. He was married twice and had two children.
