James H. Hawley

James Henry Hawley ( born January 17, 1847 in Dubuque, Iowa; † August 3, 1929 in Boise, Idaho ) was an American politician and 1911-1913 Governor of the State of Idaho.

Career

Even as a young James Hawley came to California, where he both the San Francisco attended college, and at times worked in mining. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he started in Hailey to work in his new profession. He became a member of the Democratic Party. In the years 1870 and 1874 he was elected to the Territorial House of Representatives.

Between 1885 and 1889 he was a federal prosecutor in the Idaho Territory. From 1903 to 1905 he was mayor of the city of Boise. After the murder of former Governor Frank Steunenberg he belonged in the trial of the offender to the accusing prosecutors. Here also some union representatives were accused of complicity, but were acquitted for lack of evidence. In 1910, Hawley was elected governor of his state.

Hawley began his two -year term on January 2, 1911. During this period, four new counties were established, passed the Prohibition laws stricter and the constitution reformed. He applied for the re-election, but was defeated by Republican John M. Haines and was then re- worked as a lawyer. In 1920 he published four volumes on the history of Idaho. James Hawley died in August 1929., With his wife Mary E. Bullock he had eight children.
