James Hamilton, 2nd Marquess of Hamilton

James Hamilton ( * 1589, † March 2, 1625 in White Hall ) was a Scottish nobleman and 2nd Marquess of Hamilton.

James Hamilton was of John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Hamilton and his wife Margaret Lyon a son. After the death of his father he succeeded 1604 as 2nd Marquess of Hamilton. In 1609 he was heir of his uncle, James Hamilton, 4th Earl of Arran. 1619 he was also raised to the 1st Earl of Cambridge. He has served since 1621, the office of Lord High Commissioner to the Parliament in Scotland and from 1624 to 1625 he was Lord Steward of the Household.

At times, there was speculation about a marriage between James Hamilton and the Princess Elizabeth. The death of the Marquess to be rumored due to poisoning.

James married Anne, daughter of James Cunningham, 7th Earl of Glencairn, and had with her the following children:
