James Iha

James Iha ( born March 26, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois, USA as James Yoshinobu Iha ) is an American musician.


James Iha was 1988-2000 guitarist in the successful alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, which he founded together with Billy Corgan. He's been playing the guitar in 2003, A Perfect Circle.

Iha was born the son of Japanese immigrants and grew up in a suburb of Chicago. After average grades in high school he achieved good grades in junior college and began to study at Loyola University Chicago graphic design. However, he broke off his studies in order to have more time for the Smashing Pumpkins.

He had a relationship with D' arcy Wretzky, former bassist of the Smashing Pumpkins, but broke up during the tour for the album Gish.

Iha lives in the borough of Manhattan in New York City and has together with Wretzky and Adam Schlesinger, the independent label Scratchie Records.
