James LuValle

James LuValle ( James Ellis "Jimmy" LuValle; born November 10, 1912 in San Antonio, † 30 January 1993 in Te Anau New Zealand) was an American sprinter and chemists.

At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, he won the 400 - meter dash in 46.8 s the bronze medal behind compatriot Archie Williams and the British Godfrey Brown ( 46.7 s ).

James LuValle graduated in 1936 from the University of California, Los Angeles and received his doctorate thereafter Linus Pauling at the California Institute of Technology. After teaching for a short time at Fisk University, he was from 1941 to 1953 the first African American who worked in the laboratory of the Eastman Kodak Company. From 1975 to 1984 he was Head of Laboratory at Stanford University.
