James Marwick

James Marwick (* 1862 in Edinburgh, Scotland) was a Scottish entrepreneur and founder of Mitchell & Company in New York, which later became part of today's KPMG.

Marwick began his career as an accountant in Glasgow and then came over Australia to New York. There he founded with Roger Mitchell, with whom he had studied at the University of Glasgow, The Mitchell & Company. Marwick opened in the following years, numerous offices throughout the United States. In 1911 the Marwick, Mitchell, Peat & Company, which was also known as Peat Marwick International ( PMI) later. 1986 finally came through merger of firms PMI and Klynveld Main Goerdeler ( KMG) establishing the KPMG today.
