James McSherry (Pennsylvania)

James McSherry ( born July 29, 1776 in Littlestown, Adams County, Pennsylvania, † February 3, 1849 ) was an American politician. Between 1821 and 1823 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James McSherry went to Lancaster Academy and worked in retail. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Federalist Party, a political career. Between 1807 and 1812 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania; in 1813 he was in the state Senate. During the British - American War he was one of the defenders of the city of Baltimore.

In the congressional elections of 1820 McSherry was in the fifth electoral district of the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Thomas Grubb McCullough on March 4, 1821. Since he has not been confirmed in 1822, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1823.

Between 1824 and 1830, and again from 1834 to 1835 McSherry was again a deputy in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. In the years 1837 and 1838 he took part in a constitutional convention of his home state as the delegate. Otherwise, he continued to work in the trade. He died on February 3, 1849 in his hometown of Little Town.
