James Michael Harvey
James Cardinal Michael Harvey (born 20 October 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States), Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls.
Life
After studying Catholic theology and philosophy Harvey received on 29 June 1975 in Milwaukee, the sacrament of Holy Orders. From 1976 to 1978 he attended the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and was a student at the Pontifical North American College. In 1980 he was at the Pontifical Gregorian University by preparing his dissertation on the topic, the jurisdiction of the College of Bishops by Gianvincenzo Bolgeni. A representation in the light of the doctrine of "Lumen Gentium ," the Second Vatican Council to Dr. iur. can. doctorate, and then entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 25 March of the same year a. He initially worked as a counselor in the Papal representative in the Dominican Republic before joining as an employee in the Vatican Secretariat of State on July 10, 1982. On October 27, 1982 Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and on 9 November 1994 title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness.
On 22 July 1997 he was appointed John Paul II to the Assessor in the State Secretariat and appointed him on February 7, 1998 Titular Bishop of Memphis as well as Prefect of the Prefecture of the Papal Household. On March 19 of the same year he donated him in St. Peter's episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano and Archbishop of Krakow, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski.
On 29 September 2003 he was appointed by maintaining its Titularbistums Titular per hac vice.
Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 23 November 2012 as the Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. In the consistory of the next day he took it as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Pio V a Villa Carpegna to the College of Cardinals.
Harvey's motto is " Zelus tuae domus " ( German: " Zeal for your house " ) and comes from Psalm 69.10 EU: " For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up ."
James Michael Harvey was taken to Jerusalem on 13 November 1997 with the rank of Commander in the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave. In 1998 he was promoted to Commander with Star. 2012 he was appointed Knight Grand Cross by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien.
Following the resignation of Benedict XVI. took part in the conclave, Cardinal Harvey, 2013, was elected to the Pope Francis.
