James Mitchell (actor)

James Mitchell (* February 29, 1920 in Sacramento, California, † January 22, 2010 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor and dancer.

Life

After leaving school, Mitchell began working as an actor in the American film industry. Mitchell studied drama at Los Angeles City College, among others, the choreographer Lester Horton. After his graduation, he worked for four years for the company of Horton, where he met Bella Lewitzky. Together with the newly formed dance formation of Horton Mitchell in 1944 went to New York City, where the company but economically failed. Then he got a job in the musical Oklahoma! by Agnes de Mille. Other roles in collaboration with the choreographer Agnes de Mille followed: Broadway musicals Bloomer Girl, 1944, Brigadoon, 1947, and Paint Your Wagon, 1951 In the 1950s and 1960s, Mitchell worked as a dancer in several other stage plays. :

In the 1970 Mitchell became president of the board of Dancer Foundation. Particularly well known for his role Mitchell was the Palmer Cortlandt in the American television series All My Children, in which he starred from 1979 to 2009.

Mitchell died on 22 January 2010. His longtime significant other was Albert Wolsky.
