James Noble (Senator)

James Noble ( * December 16, 1785 in Berryville, Clarke County, Virginia; † February 26, 1831 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. He was one of the first two U.S. senators for the state of Indiana after its accession to the Union.

James Nobles parents moved in 1795 with her son to Kentucky, where the family settled in Campbell County. He studied law and later worked after admission to the bar as a lawyer. In 1808 he settled in Brookville Indiana Territory. There, Noble ran a ferry and also worked as a judge. In addition, he took in 1816 as representative of Franklin County on a convent in part, in which the Constitution was drafted for the future state.

1816 Noble was elected as MP for the Democratic- Republican Party in the first House of Representatives from Indiana. His term lasted there but not for long, since he entered as one of the first two U.S. senators from the new state next to Waller Taylor to Congress in Washington on December 11 this year. He was confirmed in office twice and was in the Senate, Chairman of the Pension Committee. After the dissolution of the Democratic Republicans, he moved on to the National Republican Party.

During his third term James Noble died in February 1831 in Washington, where he was buried at the Congress Cemetery. The Noble County, Indiana is named after him.
