James Norris Memorial Trophy

The James Norris Memorial Trophy is an ice hockey trophy in the National Hockey League. It is awarded annually to the most valuable defensive player during the regular season in the NHL by a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

The first winner was Red Kelly of the Detroit Red Wings. The most frequent winners were Bobby Orr (8 Trophies 1968-1975 ), Doug Harvey (7, 1955-1958 and 1960-1962 ), Nicklas Lidstrom (7, 2001-2003 and 2006-2008, 2011) and Ray Bourque (5, 1987-1988, 1990-1991 and 1994).
