James P. Hogan (writer)

James Patrick Hogan (born 27 June 1941 in London, † July 12, 2010 in Ireland) was a British science fiction writer.

Life

James P. Hogan worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry and for several computer companies until 1979 he devoted himself full time to writing. He emigrated in 1977 to the United States.

Hogan wrote in 1977 sci-fi novels. He tended to more technically oriented science fiction ( hard SF, in reference to the term Hard Science) and is therefore sometimes compared to Arthur C. Clarke. He has written more than a dozen novels. His philosophical view of how science is carried out, is where most of his novels noticeable: theories should be formulated on the basis of empirical data.

This is especially evident in one of his most famous works, the Giants series, which consists of five volumes. It begins with the discovery within 50,000 year old human body on the moon. After much investigation and the discovery of additional facts are theories as to how the astronaut 50,000 years ago to reach the Moon, developed, discarded and replaced.

In the later years, Hogan's preferred subjects developed towards pseudo-scientific aspects. He represented it as the opinions catastrophism and the Intelligent Design. Even with the positions of the AIDS deniers he sympathized. On the subject of the Holocaust Hogan wrote that the works of Arthur Butz and Mark Weber in his opinion, " scholar, scientific and convincing than the story would be written by the victors ." Butz and Weber are known Holocaust deniers.

Hogan lived both in Ireland and also in Florida. He died on July 12, 2010 in Ireland.
