James P. Latta

James Polk Latta (* October 31, 1844 in Ashland, Ohio; † September 11, 1911 in Rochester, Minnesota ) was an American politician. Between 1909 and 1911 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1846, James Latta moved with his parents in the Jackson County, Iowa. There he attended the public schools. He also worked in agriculture. In 1863 he moved to the Nebraska Territory, where he became a teacher in Tekamah. He also continues dealt with agriculture and especially with the livestock. Since 1887 he was also in banking. In 1890 he was the founder of the First National Bank of Tekamah, whose president he was to remain until his death. Politically Latta was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1887 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Nebraska and 1907 in the state Senate.

1908 Latta was selected in the third district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he Republican John Frank Boyd replaced on March 4, 1909. In the elections of 1910, he was confirmed by the voters. His second term in Congress would have extended to March 3, 1913. Latta but died in September 1911. According to the by-election due to be sitting in the House of Representatives went to Dan V. Stephens.
