James Palumbo, Baron Palumbo of Southwark

James " Jamie " Palumbo, Baron Palumbo of Southwark ( born June 6, 1963 in London) is cofounder and chairman of the Ministry of Sound Group, an international music and nightclub business. He was listed in the Sunday Times Rich List 2012 at the 441st place with an estimated fortune of £ 170 million.

Life

Palumbo studied at Eton College 1976-81 and 1981-84 at Worcester College, Oxford. He then worked in London's financial district 1984-86 at Merrill Lynch, 1986-90 at Morgan Grenfell and 1990-92 at Hambro Magan.

Palumbo opened the Ministry of Sound nightclub in south London in September 1991 along with his school friend Humphrey Waterhouse and DJ Justin Berkmann.

The club was the Paradise Garage in New York modeled, had a 24- hour license and took advantage of the trend of popular at that time in the UK dance music. However, Palumbo had difficulties to keep drug dealers out of the club, resulting in a struggle to maintain the upper hand, ended.

Ministry of Sound has expanded since its inception in other areas such as music, live events, bars, entertainment electronics, goods, beauty and other lifestyle products. The company has also acquired a number of other brands such as Hed Kandi.

Ministry of Sound has offices and uses venues in Germany, Australia, USA, Egypt, Malaysia and Spain and performs more than 2,000 events per year in over 30 countries.

Ministry of Sound Recordings has sold over 50 million albums, and one of the largest independent music company in the world.

In 2001, Palumbo sold 16 % of the company to 3i for £ 24 million. In 2008, Lohan Presencer Chief Executive was, but Palumbo remained chairman of the group.

Work as a writer

Palumbo's debut novel Tomas about greed and corruption in the modern world, was published in July 2009. His second novel ' Tancredi ' was released in September 2011.

Policy

Palumbo has a number of friends in politics. These include Lord Mandelson, the former Labour minister, said he borrowed a car with driver during the 1997 election campaign, Simon Hughes, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, which he has supported since 1991, Tom Sackville, the conservative interior minister, with whom he 1994 worked on in the drug misuse Act.

On October 2, 2013, he was raised in the London Borough of Southwark for Life peer with the title Baron Palumbo of Southwark, of Southwark, and thus a member of the House of Lords.

Dispute with his father

James Palumbo is a son of Baron Peter Palumbo from his first marriage. He and his siblings alienated at an early age by her father. In 1994, James Palumbo launched together with his sister Annabella Adams a lawsuit in which he claimed that his father had the foundation for the family fortune embezzled, who had been by his grandfather Rudolph, a successful property developer, furnished. In 1997 Peter Palumbo resigned as trustee and new trustee appointed to manage the Familienanvermögen. In 2010, James Palumbo began a new trial against the father in connection with another family foundation, this time together with Annabella Adams and her younger sister Laura Tikoo.

Private life

Palumbo has never married. He lives in London with his long-time Thai girlfriend, Rawipim Paijit. He has a son, Alessandro, who was born in March 1991 by its Iranian mother Atoosa Hariri.
