James R. Hindman

James Robert Hindman ( born February 4, 1839 Adair County, Kentucky; † October 12, 1912 in Columbia, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he was vice- governor of the state of Kentucky.

Career

Hindman was elected in 1882 on the side of J. Proctor Knott for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. This post he held 1883-1887. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1892, he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives. He died on October 12, 1912 in Columbia. The city of Hindman in Knott County was named after him.
