James R. Williams

James Robert Williams ( * December 27, 1850 in Carmi, Illinois, † November 8, 1923 in Loma Linda, California ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1895, and again from 1899 to 1905, he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Williams attended the common schools and then studied until 1875 at Indiana University in Bloomington. After a subsequent law degree from Union College of Law in Chicago and his 1876 was admitted to the bar he began in Carmi to work in this profession. Between 1880 and 1882 he held the position of Master in Chancery. From 1882 to 1886 he was district judge in White County. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

After the death of Mr Richard W. Townshend Williams was at the due election for the 19th seat from Illinois as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on December 2, 1889. After two re- elections he could remain until March 3, 1895 Congress. In 1898 he was elected to Congress again in the 20th electoral district of his state, where he was able to complete between 4 March 1899 to 3 March 1905 as the successor of James R. Campbell three other legislative periods.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives James Williams practiced as a lawyer again. He died on November 8, 1923 in Loma Linda and was buried in Carmi.
